Broken Biscuits is a one-woman solo show, set in grandmother’s Yemeni-British living room in the 1970’s, that sat on top of granddad’s corner shop on Lawrence road, selling broken biscuits for half a penny, to untangle what it means to be British.

“Moving and cultural,” Amina Atiq’s piece involved some actual audience participation – everyone joining in on ‘you’ll never walk alone’ produced chills all round when Liverpool was depicted as calling this to her Yemeni grandparents from over the sea.

Unheard Voices

Unheard Voices invites you to an experimental film, to capture the stories of the Yemeni people in Liverpool.

This film honours my Gran-dads legacy. The legacy of Yemeni-British shopkeepers who set up corner shops on the streets of Britain after the first wave of Yemeni immigrants settling after a post-war era.

Filmmaker: Brain Roberts
